Australian Tourism and Commonwealth Games
March 15, 2018
The question is on everyone’s lips. Will the GC2018 Commonwealth Games enhance international awareness of Queensland and Australia as a great holiday destination? As we all know the Games are being held on Queensland’s Gold Coast from 4 to 15 April 2018.
Tourism Australia seems to think so. In collaboration with Federal and State Government including Tourism and Events Queensland and Destination Gold Coast,
Tourism Australia is working to maximise the international tourism related benefits of hosting the Commonwealth Games.
The GC2018 will be the biggest sporting and cultural event in Australia this decade. More than 6,600 athletes and team officials from 70 Commonwealth
nations and territories will share in the excitement of the Games, which are expected to attract a worldwide TV audience of more than 1.5 billion
people and bring more than 100,000 visitors to the Gold Coast.
The number of visitors coming to the Gold Coast from outside the city is expected to be 17 times the number who come for the Supercars Gold Coast
600 and 22 times the number of visitors attending the Broadbeach Blues Festival.
Sporting events will take place throughout the Host City of Gold Coast and Event Cities of Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville. All wonderful Queensland
cities that will showcase Australia’s natural beauty to a worldwide arena.
